The 12-year-old car parking system at the Muscat International Airport has been upgraded at a cost of RO134,000, reducing operating costs and eliminating frauds, the Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC), which manages and operates the airport and car park facilities there, said.
The new system, introduced at car parks Nos. 1,2 and 3, enhances security, eases traffic congestion and improves end user service, a spokesman for OAMC sad, adding that the system upgrade included changing all entry and exit barriers and machines, pay on foot terminals and back office management.
The new car park system vendors are ACS, a Texas-based company which offers transportation solutions such as airport car park management systems. ACS currently powers 44 airport car parks worldwide, including Londons Heathrow and Gatwick airports, Metz Airport in France, Florence Airport in Italy, JFK Airport in New York, Dallas Forth Worth Airport in USA and Sydney Domestic Airport in Australia.
The current capacity of the car parks at the terminal building at the airport is 1,200. Car park No. 1 has a capacity of 572 cars located on the east entrance of the airport, car park No. 2 has a capacity of 300 cars located opposite the terminal building, car park No 3 has a capacity of 300 cars located on the west entrance of the airport.
OAMC has awarded a contract to further expand car park No. 3 and create an additional 300 car park spaces, work on which will start soon.
