The City of Fort Myers, Florida, announces that PassportParking’s mobile payment parking service will now be available for use at downtown coin-operated on-street and parking lot parking meters. Drivers will have the option to use their cell phones to pay for parking using Passport’s innovative and easy-to-use technology.
In addition to letting drivers pay for parking on the go or from the comfort of their vehicle, PassportParking users can extend their parking session from anywhere using the app, mobile website, or interactive voice system.
“We are pleased to partner with PassportParking to introduce a mobile payment option to Fort Myers’ visitors and citizens,” stated Don Paight, executive director of the Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency. “For years, people working in or visiting downtown have asked for the ability to use their credit card or phones when they are parked at a meter. Passport will give drivers incredible flexibility and convenience by eliminating the need to carry change or to rush back to their vehicles as the meters are running out of time. The PassportParking technology is so easy to use, it will be one more reason people will love coming to the River District. The program even has the ability to e-mail receipts or send reminders let them know their meter time is about to expire and allow them to purchase more time.”
PassportParking also includes an option for downtown businesses to provide their customers with a discount code, which would allow the businesses to pay for either all or some portion of their customer's parking. Should the businesses choose to utilize this option, drivers who log into using Passport’s one-touch Facebook log in can find nearby businesses that offer the parking "discounts."
To utilize the new service, smart phone users must first download the PassportParking app for iOS or Android devices or register online at m.ppprk.com. Customers can also register by calling the local phone number listed on PassportParking signage.
Once registered, drivers have the option to pay using the PassportParking app, mobile website, or by calling the local toll free number. To pay, drivers simply enter the zone and space number listed on signage and then select how long they wish to stay. Both the mobile app and mobile website allow drivers to extend their parking session to the maximum time allowed, add or update payment card details, as well as manage notification and receipt options.
While the meter won’t show the time remaining, customers will not have to display any proof of payment as parking enforcement officers can view payments through a wireless handheld device.
The mobile pay service is offered by Charlotte, NC-based PassportParking, Inc. Passport currently operates in almost 100 municipalities, universities, and private parking operators nationwide, including Pompano Beach, FL; Ocala, FL; and Lincoln, NE. The company also developed ParkChicago, Chicago’s mobile parking payment application.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the City of Fort Myers to improve the city’s parking experience,” said Bob Youakim, Chicago native and Managing Partner of PassportParking. “Residents and commuters will love the simplicity of our mobile payment option and the many conveniences our technology offers. We look forward to a long relationship with the City as it continues to improve the parking experience.”
