Pay by Credit Card at Downtown Parking Meters?
A new project aims to relieve the parking problem in downtown Cedar Rapids. The downtown district wants to improve parking as a tool for economic growth.
The city, the downtown district and Carl Walker Inc. are teaming up to paint a positive picture of the downtown community.
New parking meters are an option on the table. Under this plan, drivers in downtown Cedar Rapids would have the convenience to swipe a credit card.
Dennis Burns said, "we've seen in other communities they raised revenue by 15-35 percent just because of the new technology." Local business owners believe this will help boost business.
Karl Moscrip with Hall Bicycle in downtown Cedar Rapids said, " I think the idea of meters taking credit cards would be good. I know we have a lot of people that have to come and get change for parking." The downtown district hopes to attract more people downtown and help boost the local economy.
