POM Introduces Parktel
Parktel provides a secure way to use your credit card to pay your parking meter
POM Introduces Parktel
POM Incorporated is pleased to announce a new product, Parktel, which will be exhibited for the first time at the National Parking Association conference, October 13-15, at the Gaylord Resort and Conference Center, National Harbor, Maryland. Parktel allows you to pay your parking meter with your credit card using your cell phone and access to Parktel's website.Transactions are processed through PayPal secure mobile payments gateway, and the cell phone actually pays the meter using Bluetooth. Since no credit card information or other personal data is kept at the meter or transmitted by the phone, all transactions are secure and PCI compliance is not an issue. Wireless network is not required. Proof of payment is provided as an e-mail message, and the meter's actual enforcement signal (or printed receipt from other types of licensed parking equipment). Enforcement includes the same conventional visual polling of meter signals (or parking receipts). Parktel keeps enforcement simple, fast, and uniform, and provides both the motorist and the city with support for citations. Parktel secure Bluetooth modules will be available for upgrading existing POM Series II electronic meters, and for licensing other parking equipment vendors.
While these standard features are available with the Parktel rollout, POMs development staff is currently reviewing a multitude of parking related enhancements made feasible with this new technology.
