PRINCETON: Boro to purchase new parking vehicle

Princeton Borough Council has given the go-ahead for the purchase of a $28,800 parking enforcement vehicle after one of its fleet suffered a transmission failure that was deemed too costly to repair.
In early January, the parking enforcement vehicle suffered the transmission failure, according to a memo from police Lt. Nick Sutter to Borough Clerk Lea Quinty distributed at last Tuesdays Borough Council meeting.

The cost of replacing the transmission is simply not cost effective as the vehicle is worth much less than the cost of the repair (approximately $4,000), wrote Lt. Sutter in the memo. The new vehicle is a gas-powered three-wheel GO-4 Interceptor III manufactured by Westward Industries.

I have had conversations with Chief Dudeck and Lt. Sutter. Apparently one of our GO-4s blew up, said Councilwoman Barbara Trelstad. Ms. Trelstad said she did not agree with an earlier proposal to replace GO-4 vehicles with a Mercedes Benz smart car.

Additionally, while the interceptor company may be in the process of developing an electric vehicle, it is not ready for prime time at this moment, she said. Borough Engineer Chris Budzinski said the broken vehicle was well beyond its useful life.

Stating an interest in having a full fleet of parking enforcement vehicles in order to generate municipal revenue, council members voted unanimously to purchase a replacement for $28,800.
