Putney Takes The Souths Lead In M-Parking Solutions

Various on street parking spaces in Putney, London Borough of Wandsworth will become the first in the south of England to offer a mobile phone payment option.
parkmobile.gifIn a scheme open to anyone who leaves their car in the area, drivers will pay a minimal fee to solution providers ParkMobile to enroll for use of a transponder card which remains in their car. When parking, instead of having to make the trip to a Pay & Display terminal, they call a dedicated number and log their parking event using codes visible on nearby lamp posts or parking terminals. A second call ends the event and motorists are charged only for the exact period used or warned via SMS when the maximum stay is approaching.
Speaking about the imminent launch on 2 February, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Kathy Tracey said: “It’s certainly worth trying. Not only does it mean you don’t need to carry the right coins but you only pay for the time the car is parked. You can even get a text message reminder when it’s time to move your car. It could mean never having to pay a parking fine again!”
