Restoration work on Montgomery County Underground Garage wins award

Carl Walker, Inc. is proud to announce the Montgomery County Underground Garage restoration (Dayton, OH) has been honored with an Award of Excellence, Longevity Category, from the International Concrete Repair Institute(ICRI).
Mark Sampson accepted the award for Carl Walker at the 15th Annual ICRI Awards Banquet, held in November 2007 at Ballys Las Vegas Hotel.

In 1994, Carl Walker did the original restoration work on this underground garage, which was built in 1970 and has three below-grade levels and 450 parking spaces. Because it was desired that the use life of the project be an additional 30 years, extensive reconstruction work was necessary. One of the methods used to accomplish this was hydrodemolition to remove all delaminated concrete areas and the installation of a cathodic protection with a bonded concrete overlay.

This protection system was set up to be routinely monitored and quarterly monitoring reports were completed to ensure continued performance of the system. In the thirteen years since installation, no significant problems, such as corrosion induced deterioration of the floors and ceilings, have been noted. This record of a succession of good performance reports was what ICRI considered in selecting this structure as an award winner in the Longevity Category.
