RICHMOND SCORE TRY WITH WIFI

Compex supplies London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames with Wireless Handheld Technology and Synchronising Software.

ClinkCE WIFI

10th February 2006 - Northampton, UK – Compex Development & Marketing Ltd, the leading UK supplier of parking enforcement software and wholly owned subsidiary of VINCI Park, announced today Richmond’s implementation of their handheld software and wireless technology ClinkCE WIFI™.

Richmond have been a customer of Compex for over a decade using the notice processing systems and handheld for parking enforcement. This year when changing parking enforcement contractors a change in handheld hardware was also required from the existing TP2000.

Rugged Handheld

The requirement for a rugged, durable, touch screen and keyboard based handheld with Bluetooth capabilities for printer connectivity were the base requirements.
Jeremy Graham-Clare – Sales Manager Compex Development & Marketing Ltd said “Having evaluated our range of 42 different handhelds the choice was finally made for the Symbol MC9000 series to be recommended as the extremely rugged design withstands multiple 6 ft. drops and so reduces down time due to accidental drops whilst maintaining reliable performance in harsh conditions. In addition to the rugged design the integration of both Bluetooth and Wireless (WIFI) technologies allowed us to use the ClinkCE WIFI handheld software and synchronisation system.”

ClinkCE WIFI is a combination of a handheld database that uses dual database technology to reduce the amount of repetitive data transferred by only sending changed data and the synchronising over WIFI (wireless network) ability.

£80,000.00 savings!

By using dual databases, synchronisation of data is shortened to 3 minutes rather than 5-12 minutes per handheld. Combining this with the WIFI technology allows simultaneous synchronisation to be achieved. So rather than queuing in a rack and synchronising one by one, all handhelds can be synchronised. So if one handheld takes 3 minutes to synchronise then 37 handhelds would synchronise in 3 minutes. With possible savings of up to 5 hours 33 minutes per day in comparison to rack and single database technology used previously which equates to approximately £80,000.00 over the contract term.

Compex also supplied the Zebra QL series printer for a complementary rugged unit to the Symbol. Dropped from moving vehicles at 30mph and still capable to operate fully, also having superior printer heads for longevity and integrated Bluetooth, the Zebra was the obvious choice over other less rugged printers currently available in the market.

Graham-Clare continues “As with all of the Compex products and services we aim to keep an understanding of the total cost of ownership. Many of today’s suppliers provide equipment manufactured for internal usage which is then used in parking operations with very high failure rates. Using high quality equipment such as the Symbol handheld and the Zebra printer – although may initially more costly - actually protects the initial investment over the full term of a contract.”

Graham-Clare said “Combining the durability of the equipment with the cost savings of the technology Compex have provided yet another customer with a complete parking management system that meets the needs of our industry.”
