Innovative SKIDATA Parking Solution for new Terminal 2 at Munich Airport

Landshut, 1. September 2003: Since its official opening in June this year, Terminal 2 at Munich Airport has already gained a reputation as the worlds most passenger-friendly check-in terminal. The airport car park at Terminal 2 has been fitted with a comprehensive parking management system by SKIDATA. Complementing the system in operation at Terminal 1, the new solution meets all of the stringent quality requirements to the full satisfaction of the airport operator. A high level of customer convenience, excellent value for money, and customer-oriented, open communication were among the key benefits that convinced the operator once again to go with a SKIDATA system.
APT450_ZufahrtMUC-Airport.gifTerminal 2 has been the most extensive construction project at Munich Airport since its opening in 1992. But opening a second terminal also meant that more parking spaces were needed. The result is a new garage complex that has capacity for around 6,400 vehicles and offers excellent customer service.
As provider of the parking management solution, SKIDATA is an important contributor to the project. SKIDATA Parking Management System APT 450 combines easy, self-explanatory operation with secure, convenient processing of system transactions. Its special ‘single-slot’ technology allows short-term tickets, credit cards, and other card-based media to be processed through the same card slot.

SKIDATA had already provided the parking system for Terminal 1. The new system now in operation at Terminal 2 interfaces seamlessly with the existing one and has been tuned to the specific reporting and controlling needs of Munich Airport. It also includes a custom-designed smartcard solution that provides parking access for airport staff.

Safety first

Steinlehner-120002.gifFritz Steinlehner, head of the Parking business unit at Munich Airport, explains why the operator opted for the SKIDATA system: “Safety, as provided by the SKIDATA system, plays a pivotal role in professional parking management. Other essential factors are a friendly architecture and short walking distances between the parking space and pay point. The solution offered by SKIDATA fully satisfies all of these requirements.”
As Steinlehner points out, “Cooperation with SKIDATA has been very successful indeed. Their high commitment to performance allowed us to complete the project on time, and their professional dedication has been a great inspiration at every stage of the project. No matter how difficult things got at times, the SKIDATA team always managed to come up with a viable solution.”

On average, around 8,000 entrance and exit transactions take place at the new parking garage every day.
