The primary difference between industrial automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) and automated parking systems (APS) is simply the size of the item being stored. Few people understand that better than Skyline’s Sales Director in Spain, Santi Rosés.
For more than 20 years, Santi has worked in the fields of automatic packaging machinery, packaging, end of line and automated pallet storage. Now, he is handling the bigger “pieces” heading up Team Spain from Barcelona for Skyline Parking.
“I saw automated parking systems many years ago during business travels through Japan, Hongkong and South korea. The advantages in saving space, minimizing pollution, safety and user comforts were instantly obvious”, said Mr. Rosés.
Spanish Parking Solutions For Spanish market, Rosés points out that APS allow municipalities to reach otherwise unachievable goals such as:
- Eliminating on-street parking
- Meeting CO2 targets
- Improving traffic flow in dense urban areas
- Encouraging business growth in large cities
- Providing more secure parking, where needed
- Creating more open space by saving land area and volume for car parking
- Optimizing parking for mixed use with very fast parking and retrieval
Following years of work in industrial design, production, operations, Santi Rosés was involved in various commercial activities including the export of Spanish-made machinery worldwide. The move to working with Skyline Parking and APS end 2011 was quite natural. As of 2012 Santi and his colleagues worked with real estate developers, property agents, architects and engineering firms, hotel chains, automobile associations, garage and parking organizations and officials from state and local government to show the benefits of Skyline’s parking solutions.
“When I first saw the Skyline APS, I felt very comfortable because it represented continuity and a way to leverage my previous experiences. Instead of moving and placing boxes and pallets automatically, APS simply move and place cars in an automated manner. The machinery has much in common in that they all require PlCs (programmable logic controllers) and sophisticated programs to monitor and control devices precisely and securely”, according to Santi.
„I am fascinated by the Skyline APS options. I’m convinced these will help us realize the Skyline’s initial installation in Spain.“ - Santi Rosés.
