Determining the occupancy of HGV parking spaces by means of video detection on Motorway 2, rest area Krähenberge, Germany

In October, the Business Unit Interurban of Swarco Traffic Systems GmbH has won the contract for the second pilot project on motorway A2 in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, regarding the field of telematic control for telematic control for HGV parking with different detection methods.
Schild-Kraehenberge_250px.jpgWhereas the project at the service area Börde, which is currently being implemented, uses intelligent inductive loops for detection, the rest area Krähenberge will be equipped with a system based on video technology.

The system consists of 8 video cameras determining the available HGV parking spaces. To do so, the occupancy of the parking spaces are detected and balanced by counting the entering and leaving vehicles, the number of free parking spaces is then displayed via LED-sign at the motorway.A video camera with pan-tilt-zoom function is used to monitor the occupancy and visually correct the numbers, if necessary. The system will be integrated into an existing video system, video and TLS data will be forwarded to the traffic management center at Halle/Peißen via fiber optic cable.

The system is planned to be finished until the end of 2011. The complete project management and coordination will be executed by SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS. Thus, once again the Business Unit INTERURBAN was able to stand its ground with a competitive project concept and to make a contribution to the implementation of HGV parking management as a technology of the future.
