Traffic Management Plan at the Dallas Arboretum

The City Council was briefed on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, on the new Rory Meyers Childrens Adventure Garden under construction at the Dallas Arboretum, as well as other coming events, like the Chihuly exhibit that opens tomorrow. The Arboretum has an implemented traffic management plan, as required in its agreement with the City. The following overview of the plan is provided for your information.

The Arboretum currently has 675 onsite parking spaces. Once this onsite area is at capacity, a remote parking lot with an additional 500 spaces, located at the corner of Gaston Avenue and Garland Road, is opened and free shuttle service is provided. If additional space is needed beyond this, the Arboretum uses several other locations along Garland Road for overflow parking. Signage is placed along Garland Road to identify the offsite shuttle locations as each area is opened.

Once the main lot at the Arboretum closes, the transportation management plan requires that at least 50 spaces be available prior to reopening the lot for parking. This practice prevents vehicles from lining up on Garland Road and waiting for the onsite lot to reopen. No queuing or stalling on Garland Road is permitted.

A handicap accessible van is provided at the offsite parking location for those needing assistance.
