UI Technology partnership to charge Fairfield County

As GE continued its national Electric Vehicle (EV) Experience Tour with a stop in New York City on May 12 they made a stop at Sherman Town Green in Fairfield May 13 to unveil the UI Plug-In event. The United Illuminating Company (UI), in partnership with the town of Fairfield and General Electric (GE), installed its first Fairfield County Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) charging station at the Sherman Town Green 1451 Post Road in Fairfield.
Fairfield First Selectman, Sherri Steeneck, kicked-off the plug-in event at Fairfields Sherman Green parking facility. Roddy Diotalevi, Senior Director Client Services, UI, and Jamie Braaten, Commercial Leadership Program Member, GE spoke in support of this new initiative. The Plug-In event is part of GEs EV Experience Tour launching and creating community awareness of EV charging stations across the country.

UIs Plug-In pilot program has been in development for the past twelve months. The objective is to work with technology partners to test how EV users will manage vehicle charging at home and in the greater community and to assess the impact of EV adoption on UIs electrical infrastructure.

The Town of Fairfield, where GEs corporate headquarters are located, will feature GE EV charging stations at a local commuter lot and railroad station thanks to the collaboration of The United Illuminating Company, the Town of Fairfield and GE.

The installation of the GE EV charging station at Fairfields Sherman Green and Train Station is a local demonstration of GE's global commitment to lead the future of EV electrification, says Michael Mahan, Product General Manager, GE Energy Industrial Solutions.

Partnerships with municipalities and technology providers such as Fairfield and GE are allowing UI the opportunity to test the technology and evaluate the habits of electric vehicle commuters, stated Roddy Diotalevi. And it will provide us with the data needed to establish infrastructure to support the growth of the EV market.

UI has installed charging stations at several New Haven locations and plans other installations throughout its service territory. UI is currently working with other municipal partners and future stations are in planning stages for the City of Bridgeport, Stratford and Hamden.
