Watpac awarded $75M Adelaide Airport project

Watpac Limiteds newly established South Australian Construction business is already gathering strong momentum in the local market, with the Company being awarded the Adelaide Airport Landside Infrastructure project.
The contract, with a construction value of approximately $75 million, represents Watpacs first building construction job in South Australia, where the Company has undertaken civil infrastructure projects for many years.

The works will comprise a five-level multi-deck car park which will provide direct access to the existing Adelaide Airport Terminal 1 via a pedestrian plaza space. It will be served by major access roads that incorporate the re-alignment of existing road infrastructure, and the construction of additional roads.

The 2,000-space car park is expected to facilitate approximately 7,000 vehicle entries per day, and will include facilities for hire car operators and valet parking, as well as improved taxi, limousine and bus access.

The project will also comprise significant architectural landscaping, paving, curved feature canopies and an impressive link bridge between the terminal and the car park.

Watpacs Civil Infrastructure team will also be intimately involved, undertaking the road works component of the project.

Greg Kempton, Watpac Managing Director, said he was delighted Watpac had made such a strong entrance into the local construction market after recruiting local State Manager for Construction, Tim Tape, late last year.

Having only established our Construction division in South Australia in October 2010, we are very pleased to be awarded this significant job as our first construction project in this State, Mr Kempton said.

The Adelaide Airport Landside Infrastructure project sets a high benchmark for our continued success in South Australia, and will ultimately be a positive contribution to the strategic growth strategy we have in place for our businesses in South Australia.

In addition to our local leadership team, this is the State where myself and our National General Managers of Construction and Civil & Mining originally hail from, so taking part in such a high-profile project, and one that is so important to the community, is particularly rewarding.

We are looking forward to working with our client, sub-contractors, suppliers and all stakeholders to deliver a world-class project that will benefit all stakeholders.
