WeHo to build automated parking garage

The facility will serve all visitors, staff and commercial patrons.

According to reports, automated parking facilities can hold two to three times the number of cars as traditional ramp-style parking garages of the same volume.

The technology, which the city hopes to model for developers, enables architects to meet parking requirements in less space than they would have with a traditional ramp-access garage.

Automated parking provides customers with a valet-like parking experience that is fast, safe and in many cases, less expensive or equal to regular parking solutions.

The automated car retrieval process takes approximately 90 seconds.

Automated parking structures utilize computer-controlled motorized lifts, conveyors, and shuttles to transport cars from the arrival level to a parking space and vice versa, without human assistance.

Customers simply drive into a friendly entry bay and stop, exit and lock their car.

Upon return, the automated parking garage system retrieves the car and quickly delivers it to the driver in a convenient exit-facing position.

Additional advantages of automated parking include reduced risk of damage, theft and increased personal safety as the parking area is not accessible to the public.

In addition, automated garages pollute far less than conventional garages. For the proposed 200-space parking structure, the reduction in CO2 emissions for the automated garage system is equal to taking 92 cars off of the road each year or planting 67,000 trees.
