Parking in Norfolk; WPS largest single deal ever

Recently WPS Parking Systems has been awarded a large-scale order by the City of Norfolk for installing parking management equipment in 12 parking garages in Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
Providing innovative, simple and tailor-made solutions to customers all over the world has always been a key focus for WPS Parking Systems. On many occasions during the last couple of years, WPS has shown evidence that this strategy is the fuel to further growth and the strengthening of our brand.

The City of Norfolk currently owns and operates one of the largest publicly owned parking facilities in the USA, including 14 garages, 14 surface lots, and over 700 metered parking spaces, totaling over 19,000 public parking spaces. Operation of these public parking spaces generates revenue in excess of $21 million annually for the City of Norfolk.

As part of future developments the City will replace the parking systems currently installed at all parking garages and open several new parking garages. WPS Parking Systems will equip all these locations, a total of 16 garages facilitating approximately 14,000 parking spaces, with a BC200 networked parking system.

All equipment will be connected to a central server for monitoring, control and management of the parking system. Besides the implementation of the industry leading Hotel TVS system, for complete integration with several newly-built hotels, the ParkCard will also be incorporated as a method of payment. This card is issued by the City of Norfolk as a pre-paid smartcard for on-street parking. The integration of the ParkCard contributes to further integration of on-street and off-street parking in Norfolk. The order includes, amongst other equipment, 32 entry terminals, 47 pay-stations and exit terminals with a total of 87 barriers, and represents a total value of $3 million. The complete project is expected to be installed in 2009.
