CARRIDA Introduces Smallest Standalone Camera for ALPR and Make&Model Recognition

High performance doesn’t need to come along with bulky cameras and external computing units: CARRIDA presents its brand new CARRIDA CAM Dragon+, a ready-to-use and standalone camera that features onboard license plate recognition. It can also determine the specific make&model of cars and classify different types of vehicles such as car, delivery vehicle, truck and bus. This enables detailed traffic statistics and is powered by AI-features of the well-proven CARRIDA SDK.

3x Higher Performance, Even at Traffic Speed up to 300 km/h

Compared to CARRIDA’s proven and cost-effective CARRIDA CAM Basic+, the new CARRIDA CAM Dragon+ provides a 3-times higher performance, still maintaining the ultra-compact size, hardly bigger than a credit card. The new model is available with different optics and thus can be deployed in unlimited ALPR use cases, from access control and parking to safety, security and law enforcement, to tolling, traffic management and smart city applications. The CARRIDA CAM Dragon+ provides license plate reading results with a typical accuracy greater than 99 percent, even at traffic speed up to 300 km/h if used with an external trigger. The system can be used worldwide: license plates from all countries of the world are recognized, even with two-line license plates and special characters.

The CARRIDA CAM Dragon+ perfectly matches the powerful CARRIDA SDK ALPR-Engine and enables real time data streaming via standard network protocols. With its small size, the camera can be easily integrated into existing systems for stationary as well as mobile applications. It is equipped with a high-end image sensor from SONY that ensures the best possible image quality and first-class reading results, even in difficult lighting situations such as tunnels and cross light situations. The ultra-compact ALPR/ANPR camera is protected against dirt, dust and moisture in accordance with IP67 and thus suitable for permanent outdoor use, also thanks to the integrated heater.

Easy Setup and Maintenance—Even Without Any Programming Skills

Flexible and versatile, the CARRIDA CAM Dragon+ has been developed for quick and easy integration and setup: Simply plug in the 2-cable connection for network and power/IO and follow the initial setup with just a few steps from startup to your individual solution. The ALPR camera runs with CARRIDA SDK, the powerful software engine for numerous uses. It is also possible to access and configure the CARRIDA CAM Dragon+ with CARRIDA Edge from any web browser. Thereby, users can utilize the functionality and performance of the proven CARRIDA SDK with an Web-GUI and without any programming skills necessary. Pre-installed default settings for plug&play startup and quick deployment of individual settings such as region of interest (ROI), ALPR recognition, brightness control, format of display results and much more make the development of ALPR applications as easy as never before. Encrypted communication and data transfer meets the highest security standards.

AI for Perfect Reading Results and Make&Model Recognition

CARRIDA CAM Dragon+ uses Deep Learning for make and model recognition and added functionalities, such as the vehicle classifier. This means that the computer itself “learns” how to recognize a particular vehicle type. Therefore it is possible to run much more complex and thus more reliable recognitions. In addition to the number plate, CARRIDA CAM Dragon+ is able to check whether the vehicle type matches the number plate by checking a list stored on the system. It is also possible to categorize vehicles whose number plates are not stored in the system itself. This allows intelligent traffic management systems and helps parking providers, who do not know the majority of their customers, to increase their efficiency enormously.
