Public utility companies from Serbia, are in charge of organizing, collecting fees, and managing parking services . In order to adequately solve the problem of crowded vehicles in the central city zone and to increase profit, PU companies from six Serbian cities selected a solution from technology provider Pakom Solution Centre (PSC) called SMS4Parking. The new SMS4Parking solution employs modern technologies such as mobile communications services and Microsoft .NET technologies to help solve, efficiently and comfortably, the problem of charging for and managing parking. Using the SMS4Parking system, users can conveniently pay for parking services by SMS text messages, and city administration has solved an important municipal problem while helping to improve the quality of life Serbian cities.

The SMS4Parking solution created by Pakom Solution Centre (PSC) employs mobile communications services and SMS text messaging to help to streamline parking and fee collection.SMS4Parking, is a complete solution based on information technology for the collection of fees and the management of parking services. It was created around an m-commerce segment based on the use of SMS text messages as the payment tool. The system is based on Microsoft .NET technology and the concept of services all that a user needs is a permanent Internet connection and a server that ensures additional security functionality for the entire system, explains Jovan Popović, Sales Manager at PSC. Savings are made due to the fact that the user purchases just the service, while the central, rather complicated, and expensive infrastructure is based in our central office, says Popović. Connection with mobile communication providers is handled by the PSC Premium Center, which receives, processes, and transmits information on payments made via SMS text messages, and which is in constant communication with the server handled by the user. Portable GPRS terminals running Windows Mobile software manage the process. Control officers can access the system to check on the status of any parked vehicle.
