Local Government Commercial Manager (Stafford, UK)

The Role

As a Commercial Manager, you will be responsible finding, developing, sourcing, bidding for, negotiating and winning new business within the Local Government Sector. Your role will entail all aspects of lead generation from generating and developing the relationship with the prospective Local Authority, right through to effectively converting this to new business. You will work with colleagues to enhance and lead our business development.

The focus will be on visiting potential Local Authority Clients which are in our pipeline and to establish a relationship which enables the sector Director to develop that opportunity

What you’ll do:

  • Explore where we can provide services with a potential Local Authority Client, such as Notice Processing surge capacity, support an introductory for our Urban Hubs strategy etc
  • Prepare commercial terms for business proposition and written proposal
  • Identify new potential sites, build business case to support the opportunity and present to the business.
  • Report activity and performance to KPI’s in a clear, transparent and structured way
  • Oversee and manage the maintenance of a Local Authority proactive sales pipeline
  • Network and attend network events to promote APCOA and increase our brand and service awareness to potential clients
  • Complete and undertake data gathering and analysis of competitor activity and develop local strategies and initiatives to negate any competitor activity
  • Develop creative and innovative operational proposals which extend the scope of APCOA’s services with new clients
  • Develop and own any new business dealbook to be presented to the business for approval and engage with internal colleagues to ensure the dealbook assumptions are correct and signed-off
  • Build excellent and beneficial relationships with internal colleagues, especially Operations colleagues to ensure a smooth handover and implementation of new business
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the nature and grade of the post as necessary or as requested.

What you’ll bring:

  • Extensive commercial sales and marketing experience and a record of effectively increasing sales
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at individual, team and group level
  • Be comfortable and effective in communicating with clients, potential clients, front line staff, managers and directors alike
  • Excellent relationship management skills through being able to develop positive working relationships with clients and internal support services
  • A well organised self-starter who is highly motivated to develop and convert leads, create and build advantageous relationship and can effectively operate with the minimum of supervision
  • Proven multi-disciplinary experience in operational, contract, commercial and project management and management exposure in a client facing role – minimum of 2 years contract management experience
  • Experienced developing financial and commercial proposals
  • Solid working experience of Salesforce or similar CRM system
  • Able to work under pressure, with a confident and resilient nature
  • Ability to prioritise and manage high level tasks and directives which may conflict each other
  • Able to produce informative and concise reports and make effective oral and written presentations
  • Numerate and literate and experienced with Microsoft Office tools

What we’ll offer you:

  • £50,000 per annum
