The Spirit of the Position

The Deputy Chief Financial Officer / SVP Corporate Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for the internal financial controls and processes for LAZ Parking. S/he will lead a team of 50+ people, promoting the company’s people-first, - servant leadership culture while meeting stakeholder and client demands monthly and ongoing for financial reporting.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

  • Designs and executes the annual (and ongoing) strategy for department oversight, including A/P, A/R, Payroll, Operational Audit, and Revenue Audit.
  • Leverages synergies in the work performed by the teams to create efficiencies while maximizing productivity.
  • Establishes SOPs for each of our common deal structures while ensuring the internal executive approval process for any deal following outside the scope of the policy.
  • Establishes SOPs and approval processes for internal and external efficiencies across the financial services organization.
  • Responsible for the coordination and oversight of Service Organization Controls (SOC) audits performed by external auditors.
  • Responsible for revenue reporting and integrity including cash reconciliation procedures, providing tools to ensure proper use; including creating a procedure for checklists/scorecards to ensure efficiency.
  • Reviewing and overseeing the contracts for each new location, coordinating with the Home Office to ensure setup is done properly according to the established SOPs.
  • Holds managers accountable for ensuring that ongoing “rhythm” meetings are facilitated within the teams, allowing for the ability to address and respond to identified issues for prompt resolution.
  • Ensures team engagement through ongoing meetings, activities, and check-ins.
  • Acts as a liaison to other departments if/as needed as it relates to strategizing, resolving issues, and/or ensuring accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Meets regularly with the CFO and escalates/communicates issues and pertinent information.
  • Maintains organization chart and strategizes with CFO ongoing to maximize the team’s productivity and engagement.
  • Produces content for weekly and periodic Home Office newsletters and updates.
  • Promotes and supports new technology software and application efforts specific to accounting.
  • Supports special projects such as due diligence for company acquisitions.

Financial Reporting and Department Operations

  • Ensures there are no write-offs or financial exposures in the balance sheet including any pertaining to managed clients.
  • Support cash flow reporting and forecasting by Treasury, ensuring effective management of funds through projections of AP / AR / Payroll / Daily Revenue disbursements and collections.
  • Works with all departments to review balances and unapplied credits/differences.
  • Communicates with Regional Vice Presidents, General Managers & Regional Controllers to maintain best practices or introduce new processes/efficiencies.
  • Identifies high-risk areas in monthly bank reconciliation review reports.
  • Researches, responds to and implements process improvements when operational audit and/or bank reconciliation issues arise due to theft/DITs.
  • Documents areas of potential process improvement from month-end close and initiates action items.
  • Works with regional leadership teams to support the onboarding of new locations, primarily portfolios or major transitions.
  • Assists the CFO and regional leadership teams as needed in annual budget preparations & quarterly updates.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Travel

  • Up to 10%.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business management, or economics.
  • Master’s degree in accounting, business, management, leadership, or MBA preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent experience is required. Experience of IFRS is preferred.
  • Experience of systems implementation preferred.

Experience

  • 15+ years in an accounting, financial analytics, and/or reporting role, with at least five years of direct oversight/management of a sizeable team.
  • Extensive experience in the design and implementation of internal controls and process improvements
  • Experience designing efficient and effective organizational structures and processes
  • Six Sigma Green Belt experience preferred
  • Extensive experience with internal and operational audit and forensic background exposure
  • Experience in public accounting is required, preferably in a large national firm.
  • Experience with procurement and other internal cost-saving initiatives.
  • Microsoft Navision experience preferred
