The Spirit of the Position:

The Senior M&A Associate, Corporate Finance reports to the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of comprehensive and accurate financial models and valuation work to support the organization in evaluating investment opportunities whether in terms of M&A activity or organic growth.

Principal Job Duties:

  • Build and update robust and succinct financial model on each transaction or business opportunity, including P&L, cash flow and balance sheet implications while making sure the model can be picked up and understood by all members of the team, detailing assumptions.
  • Conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis to evaluate investment risks.
  • Responsible for project management activities including effectively liaising between various internal departments and key team members to coordinate due diligence on potential acquisition targets.
  • Manages tracking of due diligence progress, project plans as well as organizes files related to specific transactions and keeps notes for all related meetings.
  • Produces executive style reports, slides and documents that convey key aspects of a transaction to team members, as well as the executive and investment committees.
  • Interprets and prepares financial statements and projections and presents findings.
  • Conduct preparation and review of materials used in the financing of acquisition targets, including investment memoranda, management presentations, and pitchbooks.
  • Ability to support long-term corporate business planning activities
  • Read, understand and apply contracts/documents that affect real estate valuation such as leases and management agreements.
  • Others related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Professional qualifications preferred (i.e., FMVA, MBA, CPA, CFA)

Experience:

  • Background in valuation of operating businesses and/or real estate through financial modeling with understanding of various valuation metrics and pros and cons of each. (i.e., IRR, Cash Yield, Equity Multiple, Discount Rate, Cap Rate, EBITDA Multiple, etc.)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in financial modeling and business evaluation.
  • Preferred candidates will have worked in a fast paced, team-based environment with minimal supervision.

Skills:

  • Outstanding Excel skills such as macros, VBAs, etc.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with internal team members as well as potential acquisition targets through email, phone and in-person meetings.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and quantitative abilities.
  • Ability to research and find answers to key assumptions and industries that LAZ may be looking to expand into
  • Seeks improvement and creates an environment of idea-sharing and creative problem-solving.
  • Anticipates problems and proactively mitigates them.
  • Ability to mitigate and lead others to overcome challenges (Never Ever Give Up Attitude).
  • Excellent teambuilding, consulting, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and multi-task across various projects and manage time under deadlines.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift, push and pull at least 10 pounds.
  • Ability sit for extended periods of time.
