As a Product Owner, you will manage the execution of NMI’s strategy and roadmap for Unified Commerce Enablement. The Product Owner is responsible for transforming customer and business requirements into user stories and tasks that the development team can execute upon. At NMI, our Product Owners facilitate backlog grooming, prioritization, triage, and other development ceremonies. Our product owners also take an active role in product launches, ensuring internal stakeholders are trained on the latest product capabilities. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision and attention to detail and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time learning the product and understanding its users in order to make the best design decisions for our clients.

You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work with engineering counterparts to define product release requirements. You will work with support to understand client challenges and be able to recommend their priority. You will work with appropriate internal teams to understand pending go live schedules and any product issues that need to be addressed to make those implementations as smooth and successful as possible. You will also serve as the internal evangelist for your product offering, occasionally working with key customers and our customer success organization.


What Will I Be Doing?

  • Translate product road map into detailed requirements.
  • Convey the vision and goals at the beginning of every release and development cycle.
  • Lead requirement gathering effort on epics as needed — consulting with product management, implementations, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Elaborate epics, themes, and features into user stories that are granular enough to be achieved in a single development cycle.
  • As appropriate, facilitate development stand-ups, review, retrospectives, and demos.
  • Facilitate backlog grooming to decompose and estimate stories.
  • Answer questions from developers and clarify requirements.
  • Clearly define acceptance criteria.
  • Inspect the product progress at the end of every development cycle and have the authority to accept or reject work.
  • Demonstrate pre-releases and gather feedback.
  • Scope and prioritize activities based on business and customer impact.
  • Work closely with engineering and operations to deliver with quick time-to-market and optimal resources.
  • Ensure the conceptual and functional integrity of new features or components.
  • Help establish timelines and product benchmarks.
  • Develop the voice of customer information through customer interviews.
  • Communicate product requirement status.
  • Align with key initiatives and cross-functional goals.
  • Help identify and liaise with 3rd party suppliers in order to fulfill functionality gaps
  • Manage dependencies across teams and with third-parties
  • Work with engineers to remove impediments to specific tasks moving through development

Do I Have What It Takes?

  • At least 1-3 years of product owner experience or similar/equivalent.
  • Payment technology experience preferred.
  • Ability to take business requirements and translate them into detailed product specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with customers, business and technical team members across the organization
  • Knowledgeable in technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an effective communication style
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work in a distributed environment with colleagues located in different geographical regions and across various levels of departments and organizations to facilitate meetings with a business and a technical audience
  • Detail-oriented planner
