Instructional Designer (Columbia, US)


Position Summary

The Instructional Designer is responsible for developing training curriculums and adult learning courses. This person will consult with internal subject matter experts on course content to create training that aligns with the organization's goals and training needs. As the Instructional Designer, you'll assist with tracking and measure the effectiveness of training.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive analyses of participants before creating course content to ensure that learning activities are relevant, engaging, and appealing to the learner.
  • Create trainings with multiple components for in-person and online courses, with the ultimate goal of information retention for all participants.
  • Participate in the process of building out content within the learning management system (LMS), while focusing on a design that appeals to adult learners – both internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate content clearly to participants. Sound Instructional Design is more than just decorations and graphics, it also involves effective communication.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in English, Creative Writing, Adult Education, or a related field preferred. Master's degree in Instructional Design is a plus
  • 1-2 years of experience designing and developing engaging and effective adult learning programs
  • Experience in creating animations and multimedia assets preferred
  • Experience using e-learning technology and content authoring tools preferred

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and needs assessment techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of eLearning development tools (i.e. Articulate Storyline II, Camtasia, Audacity, Go-Animate and ProTools etc.)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates, subject matter experts and project team to ensure a successful program
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the learning design cycle (ADDIE or SAM)
  • Familiar with functionality of WebEx and other Virtual software
