Abu Dhabi awards parking maintenance contract
The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi announced awarding the parking service maintenance contract to Abu Dhabi-based General Transport Company (GTC), in addition to renewal of the contract with Saaed Company for inspection and control in Abu Dhabi.
This announcement comes in response to some recent reports in the local media that the DoT is relinquishing its responsibilities in public parking and contracting these responsibilities to private companies to manage.
In compliance with the contract renewal with Saaed Company, the company will be responsible for inspections, surveillance and issuing violations under the supervision of the DoT.
According to Law No. (18) of 2009 pursuant to the establishment of the regulation of vehicles parking in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, DoT is the only organisation, public or private, that has legal mandate to manage and regulate vehicle parking in the emirate.
The parking service maintenance contract with the GTC covers the following: Fixing damaged curbstones and platforms, painting curbstones to indicate parking zones, cleaning and maintaining parking ticket machines, setting up the base foundations for the installation of parking ticket machines, installing directional signage and re-bordering, redrawing and re-painting the parking areas.
