According to a press release, the two real estate investment companies are opening an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at their 3307 M Street, NW Georgetown Renaissance property. Housed at the PMI Parking Garage, the station will be fully operational and open to the public on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

The new M Street station marks the first public electric vehicle charging station installed in Georgetown. Not far from M Street, Georgetown University recently installed two, private, 220-volt charging stations in one of the on-campus parking garages. Toyota gave the University two lithium-ion battery powered plug-in cars as part of test-drive program.

Now, electric car owners will be able to drive into the M Street EV Charging Station and recharge their electric power-driven vehicle while they shop and run errands.

For the first three months of operation, EastBanc and Jamestown will cover all charging costs. After the initial complimentary three-month period, the cost to charge electric vehicles at the charging station will run $0.50 - $1.50.

This effort confirms our commitment to environmental improvement and efforts to help reduce the eco-impact of carbon dioxide emissions in Georgetown, says Anthony Lanier, president of EastBanc, in a prepared statement. Investing in this novel infrastructure not only benefits the air we breathe but favors sustainable practices as well.

The station is a SemaConnects ChargePro, which offers Level 2 (240 VAC/ 30 amps) and can charge all new electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles with a J1772 inlet.
