Gatwick Airport Appoints New Director

Gatwick Airport today (16th November 2010) announced the latest addition to its executive management team. Guy Stephenson joins the airport as Commercial Director to lead Gatwicks airline route development activities and car parking business. He joins from National Express where he was Commercial Director for the coach business.
Commenting on the appointment Stewart Wingate, Gatwick Airport CEO said: I am delighted that Guy has joined the team as Commercial Director, overseeing airline route development and car parking.

He joins at a very busy and exciting time as we approach the end of our first year as a stand alone airport. We have around 350 million of projects currently underway to help transform Gatwick and improve passenger experience. We also have an ambitious target to grow to more than 40 million passengers over the next decade and become Londons airport of choice. Guys extensive commercial experience in the airport and travel industry will be critical to helping us achieve that ambition.

Guys appointment follows the recent announcement that airberlin has chosen Gatwick as the London airport from which to operate its new services to Nuremberg and Hanover, which could see annual passenger volumes rise by 365,000 next year.

On his new role, Guy Stephenson said: I am looking forward to building on the successes delivered so far under Gatwicks new management. My focus is on developing long-term relationships with new and existing airlines to provide more destinations for passengers to choose from. I will also be looking to introduce real competition in the car parking business to ensure Gatwicks parking facilities are first choice for passengers.

Prior to joining Gatwick, Guy was Commercial Director of National Express coach division. He brings with him extensive experience of the airport business, airline-airport relationships and consumer transport markets, having previously been the director of the air transport group at the investment bank, BZW, and the commercial director of Thomsonfly (now Thomson Airways, part of the TUI Group).
