Curbside Grocery Delivery at HEB is Quick and Easy with INDECT’s Parking Guidance Technology

INDECT USA, the parking industry’s leading provider of parking guidance systems, announces a new installation of their widely popular ultrasonic parking guidance system at the HEB supermarket in Bellaire, Texas.

Groceries that have been ordered online or by telephone can now be easily collected from HEB’s Rice Village store with the aid of INDECT’s intelligent parking guidance technology.

The HEB curbside delivery program is an interesting use of the INDECT technology,” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA. “Rather than limiting the system to the detection and direction of traffic solely within the parking garage, they have effectively designed their own loading management system.”

It definitely highlights the flexibility and versatility of the INDECT parking guidance suite,” said Fowler.

For many people, online shopping is a daily reality. The ease at which items can be purchased and delivered to our doorstep in a few days makes our busy lives that little bit simpler. Grocery shopping, however, can be a bit more complicated. Perishable items such as meat and dairy products need to be kept refrigerated and can easily spoil if left outside for too long. This means the customer needs to be present when the delivery is made and can be frustrating when there is an unexpected delay.

HEB’s curbside pickup/delivery program offers customers the convenience of being able to order their groceries online or by phone and collect them on their way home or at their earliest convenience. It is a popular program, however, as with any situation involving a high volume of vehicles, popularity can lead to delays.

The decision to install an INDECT parking guidance system reflects HEB’s commitment to providing excellent customer service both within the store and in the garage.

The installation was carried out by Houston’s own parking experts, Parking Guidance Systems LLC (PGS). Well known in the industry for their professionalism and years of experience, PGS was able to complete the installation quickly with minimal disruption to HEB’s customers.

It’s been a great success,” said Derek Frantz, Business Development Manager at PGS. “Traffic now moves freely in and out of the garage and customers are able to collect their groceries without delay.”

According to Frantz, the customer simply drives to the undercover curbside delivery area and parks in the first available space. This triggers the INDECT sensor to change the light above the bay from green to red, while also sounding an alarm in the delivery area.  An HEB employee then personally delivers the groceries and loads them into the vehicle.

The INDECT parking guidance system has also been installed throughout the parking garage with a light above every bay to indicate its status. Green for available, red for occupied and blue for ADA spaces. The lights are clearly visible to drivers when they enter so they can quickly determine which spaces are available. LED parking guidance signs have also been installed to provide easy directions throughout the garage.
