Parking to be easier with new meters installed beginning in early March

New meter installations will start in the downtown area in a section starting from Capitol Avenue on the west, going east on New York Street, heading south on Alabama Street, going west on Maryland to Pennsylvania, south to Georgia Street and west to Capitol. A spur will extend along Massachusetts Avenue from Delaware Street on the south to St. Clair Street on the north.  
 
Meanwhile, new meter installations in Broad Ripple will include portions of College and Guilford avenues plus Broad Ripple Avenue from College to Winthrop Avenue and Westfield Boulevard.  
 
Initially, the transition will include single space meters that accept credit cards. In late spring and early summer, multi-space pay boxes that accept credit cards will be installed in select locations.
 
Parking meter rates, which have not changed in 35 years, will go from 75 cents an hour to $1 an hour in both downtown and Broad Ripple on March 28. The days and hours of operation will also change that day as well. New days and hours for meters in downtown and Broad Ripple are Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Later, meters in other areas will be adjusted to operate 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday - Saturday. There will be no changes to hours in residential areas.
