UTEP Receives $1 Million Grant To Install PV System
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has been awarded a $1 million grant to create UTEP's first renewable energy resource system on campus.
The grant from the Distributed Renewable Energy Technology Program of the Texas State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) will be used to purchase a canopy-style solar photovoltaic system for the facilities services' parking lot.
The system, which the university will obtain through a competitive acquisition process, will generate approximately 300,000 kWh per year at the complex.
The purpose of the SECO program is to increase the amount of installed renewable energy in Texas. Additionally, the purpose is to further develop Texas' renewable energy potential, assist in meeting the state's renewable portfolio standard target of 10,000 MW by 2025 and advance the market for renewable technologies.
UTEP adds that it plans to pursue funds for additional renewable energy systems on campus.
