A fast-track ticket to success - APCOA Parking (UK)

APCOA Parking (UK) is pioneering a new in-house initiative that will enable civil enforcement officers to rise through the company ranks.

The new vocational development programme has been designed to hone the skills of civil enforcement officers (CEOs) and senior CEOs to become the next generation of on-street contract supervisors.

As part of the initial roll-out, eight CEOs will be put through a series of five, three to thirteen-point modules, ranging from People and Operational Management through to Finance and Communication. These will be supported by eight dedicated one-day workshops; all of which will enable officers to take their first steps towards contract management.

Throughout their training, CEOs will be shadowed by their supervisor or contract manager, who will not only ensure that they have the necessary time to complete the mandatory modules and curricular requirements, but mentor them through the programme.APCOA CEO Handbook

Graham Morphew, Managing Director for APCOA Parking (UK), realises the importance of creating opportunities to progress from within. He said: “The CEO development programme has been designed to both recognise and accelerate colleagues’ learning, and to nurture the talent of those who eventually want to progress into management.

“Initiatives like this are testament to our Investors in People | Gold accreditation, and to ensure that we continue to raise the standards across our management estate. It will also ensure that APCOA has the necessary resource and contingency plans in place to mobilise all new contracts.

“I would like to personally thank Michael Davenport, our learning and development trainer; and Brenda McKenna, Regional Park & Guard Operations Manager (North), who have both worked tirelessly to develop the training programme,” added Morphew.

The skills and competencies that are required to attain the supervisor standard are set out in a new CEO and senior CEOs’ handbook, which will be regularly assessed by contract managers and APCOA’s Learning and Development department alike. Portfolios will then be formally accessed by Brenda McKenna, who will act as the awarding member on behalf of the company.
