Brookline, MA Signs Deal to Launch PXT's New Chip-Based Smart Debit Card Program and Its Parcxmart Parking Application

Merchant Loyalty Programs and Easy Parking to Keep Consumers Shopping Locally, Boost Economy With Local Currency
PXT Payments, an electronic payment solutions provider, today announced the launch of its chip-based, secure smart debit card program in Brookline, MA, along with its flagship on- and off-street parking application, Parcxmart. PXT's full service package is designed to create a safe, local currency that boosts consumer spending in municipalities nationwide.

Starting this Fall, Brookline's population of 57,000 will be able to easily access the 542 retail and restaurant storefronts, as well as get exclusive discounts from participating local merchants, according to Marge Amster, commercial areas coordinator for the town of Brookline. Consumers can obtain the Brookline Debit Card by purchasing one in a local merchant, or going online to Brooklinecard.net.

"We're thrilled to be able to offer incentives for our customers to shop here, and let them reload their smart debit cards here," said David Leschinsky, owner of Eureka Puzzles, a participating merchant in the Brookline program. "The PXT smart debit card, and the Parcxmart parking system, provide us with a way of helping our customers fund their transactions and avoid parking tickets."

Surrounded by Boston on three sides, and Newton on the other, Brookline is a town with a highly desirable school district, universities, and its share of turnover, which means merchants must find ways to compete. The town's demographic of educated 25-36 year olds includes single college graduates and young families. "This is a demographic that needs merchant loyalty programs and convenience," said Amster.

The parking is key to creating a local currency. "Even if Brookline has The Gap, as well as many other enticing, unique boutiques, if it doesn't have accessible parking we can't compete with the mall in the suburbs that has The Gap, a million other mundane chain stores, but easy parking," Amster said. "That's the modern economy. We lose consumers in that scenario."

With Parcxmart one-swipe parking, consumers have every reason to stay local. Add the merchant discounts and safety from identity theft, and consumers will have every reason to spend money on what they need and want while they stay local.

"We look forward to having the Brookline Debit card powered by PXT Payments function in both our POM single space meters and our Digital Pay and Display meters throughout town," said Todd Kirrane, Brookline Transportation Administrator.

"We are happy to participate in the symbiotic relationship between parking, merchants, consumers, and the economic health of Brookline," said John Regan, CEO of PXT. "The PXT transaction process is wireless, and more efficient for the town and for merchants than credit or debit cards."

The PXT smart debit card program can be made for exclusive use in a single town, city, or Business Improvement District (BID), or standardized across a state, or even multiple states if local authorities coordinate. The cards are also a safe currency consumers can trust. Using chips instead of magnetic stripes enables end-to-end encryption, making identity theft impossible.
