Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Are Being Installed at The Oregon State University

Cherry City Electric will begin installing the long awaited electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on campus today. The chargers will be connected to Ecotality’s Blink Network, where the charging station status can be checked from a computer or smartphone.

Anybody will be able to charge their cars at Blink charging stations and membership is not required. The charging stations will be free to use for EV owners for the duration of the EV Project. The chargers utilize a SAE J1772 connector which is the industry standard and most widely compatible connector used for EV charging in the United States. The 240-volt level 2 chargers can fully charge a Nissan Leaf, or similar electric vehicle, in roughly 5 hours from a full discharge.

The installation process will start with six charging stations at the OSU Parking Structure, then move to two units at Campus Entrance Station (15th and Jefferson), then two units at Linus Pauling Science Center, and finish with 6 units at Reser Stadium. The installation process will likely finish by the end of July, and the units will come online shortly after.
