ALPR Vehicle Access Control: Amazon´s Logistics Center Barcelona

The new Amazon´s logistics center in Martorelles (Barcelona) has implemented SIRAM, a vehicle access control system based in automatic license plate recognition (ALPR). All LPR cameras have been installed at the entrance and exit lanes of trucks, as well as the automated access control of vehicles to control the transit of trucks and other vehicles.

Operation 

Taking into account Amazon´s needs: to control the access of merchandise vehicles and to guarantee maximum security of the center and surroundings, from Innova Systems Group we have designed a solution that combines our SIRAM Suite technology and our SIRAM Totem capture units.

An important feature of this LPR installation is the versatility and reliability of the license plate recognition system SIRAM OCR. The complexity of entrance and exit of trucks from different points of the enclosure and the large width of the vials, turn difficult the reading and recognition of car license plate. Therefore, it was necessary to offer an ALPR solution that allows to operate in a lane with a width greater than 5 meters and with vehicles whose access point is made from different places, being able to offer an accurate reading of license plates even if they have different inclinations and positions.

High security automated access 

SIRAM technology is linked to the operation process of the logistics center, being a tool that adds efficiency and security to the vehicles and trucks access control management. These are the features that SIRAM provides:

• Automatic access of all authorized vehicles, whether trucks, vans or cars.
• Registration of vehicles with temporary access authorization.
• Total control and management of the stay periods inside the logistics center
• Information of all vehicles inside the center at all times.

Hardware used

Amazon´s facilities in Martorelles (Barcelona) require versatile capture units that can provide an effective license plate reading in wider lanes and unambiguous license plate recognition despite the variety of license plate positions and inclinations due to the different access points. For this purpose, our ALPR SIRAM Totem capture unit has been chosen, taking into account the location and size of lanes, this unit has the largest number of LEDs, guaranteeing a 100% effective license plate reading and recognition.

SIRAM OCR is an advanced technology that allows the automatic recognition of license plates in an efficient and unambiguous way through the installation of capture units or LPR cameras.
