The Döppersberg traffic junction at the main railway station in Wuppertal has undergone a transformation, making it more accessible. The upgrade includes a new bus station and cycle house for environmentally conscious cyclists, as well as the new Bahnhofsmall multi-storey car park featuring 250 parking spaces, an intelligent parking guidance system, and 10-minute free parking for pick-ups and drop-offs.
Users of the new multi-storey car park can now directly access the station hall, mall, and tracks. And, thanks to the installation of an intelligent parking guidance system from MSR-Traffic, drivers can see on an entrance sign the number of parking spaces available on each respective level. In addition to normal, women’s and disabled parking spaces, it is now possible to choose “Kiss & Ride” parking spaces that can be used free of charge as a drop-off or pick-up for up to 10 minutes.
At the entrance of the Bahnhofsmall, MSR-Traffic installed a ParkGard® Main Display. With integrated LED displays, this entrance sign is ideal for outdoor use and displays the remaining parking spaces on each level of the multi-storey facility. The integrated LED displays, consisting of a level indication and the remaining space indication, enable the real-time display of available parking spaces. The information is transmitted wirelessly via a serial interface or optionally via GPRS. Other ParkGard® LED indoor displays (type Pico) are used to display symbols or numbers to enable rapid traffic guidance.
ParkGard® ultrasonic sensors (type Design) take over the single space detection to sense the occupancy status of parking spaces. Five ultra-bright LEDs indicate the status of the parking space, informing the driver whether it is free or occupied. Sensor and LED indicators are integrated into one housing and the information is transmitted via a serial interface to the higher-level controller.
ParkGard® Control Box provides the parking managers with a compact master computer featuring an integrated touch display and providing direct visualization and control of the car park as well as continuous monitoring of the occupancy status of the parking spaces. Using additional controllers, the Control Box PGCB can monitor up to approximately 500 ultrasonic sensors, can visualize them on the built-in display, and controls local bus participants such as dynamic arrow displays / remaining spaces displays and more. Due to the integrated network connection, the Control Box can be embedded into an existing network, and thus all measured values as well as the visualization can be called up remotely.
The ParkGard® Control Box from MSR-Traffic is used in combination with ultrasonic sensors and optional displays for occupancy detection and parking guidance. Via the integrated display, the car park can be visualized in real-time using the ParkGard® Control Center software and authorized users can also perform control tasks such as locking parking spaces and levels.
It is also possible to call up statistics and thus obtain information on the occupancy rate for the current day or a set period. The Control Box offers an all-in-one solution for small to medium-sized parking garages that want to do without complex server or computer systems.
At Wuppertal, the system provides surveillance of the “Kiss & Ride” parking spaces. After a 10-minute period, the free use of the “Kiss & Ride” parking spaces expires and a visualization is made in the ParkGard® Control Box to show that the parking space is being used illegally.
With the dynamic parking guidance and traffic management system from MSR-Traffic, the driver looking for a parking space is not only saved time but the operator can also reduce ventilation and environmental costs by making optimum use of the parking space.
