Norwalk Hospital Opens New Parking Garage
Norwalk Hospital has announced that its newly constructed parking garage with approximately 200 additional parking spaces will be open to the public on Monday, March 5th. The new 230,000 square foot garage has 628 parking spaces, with entrances and exits on both the Maple Street and Stevens Street sides of the hospital for the convenience of patients and visitors.
According to Jim Haynes, executive director of Facilities Operations at Norwalk Hospital, the new parking garage provides enough parking spaces to meet the community need while also allowing for normal growth and development of services.
The garage was designed to enhance the safety and comfort of patients and visitors. A key safety enhancement is that the elevators are adjacent to the hospital so that the pedestrians entering the main entrance do not cross through traffic, said Mr. Haynes. In addition, he said that the elevators have temperature-controlled vestibules; and there is access to elevators from each level of the garage.
The new garage has been specifically designed to improve traffic flow. Unlike the previous garage, which was one-way access only, our new garage has been constructed to have two-way traffic on all levels, he said.
