Parkeon Launches City News Application

City News through pay stations and transit Ticket Vending Machines

Sharing information about local news and events is key to developing a sense of pride in a community and critical to building smarter cities. Parkeon, a global leader in urban mobility systems, has just launched an application it calls “City News” which helps municipalities and Universities push information onto the streets through the company’s kiosks, which are traditionally parking pay stations and transit Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs).

The City News application is a part of Parkeon’s CLOUD system, and allows Parkeon clients to create news and event listings through a web based portal. The news is available in real time as a menu option on the Parkeon kiosk, featuring a large full color display screen.

News such as event announcements, grand openings of new businesses, road closures, and missing children alerts can be made available to the public, even to those not paying for parking or for a bus ticket. In fact, municipalities or Universities can even use this application on a stand-alone Parkeon information kiosk, which can be placed virtually anywhere since it can be wireless and solar powered.

Today, information is available from innumerable sources, and can be accessed in many different ways,” says Sean Renn, Marketing Director for Parkeon, Inc. “The ability to push information to people at the exact moment when they are shopping, doing business, or heading to class, is what makes this application special.

The City of Fort Worth, Texas beta tested the application on ten of its Parkeon pay stations. Following the successful test, Parkeon officially made the application available to its clients as an optional service. At the beginning of June, the News application will be available to students, staff, and visitors at the University of San Diego.

We continue to develop services for our kiosks to provide more value to our clients and to the general public,” says Renn. “Giving our clients the power to bring their community together through digital information sharing is really exciting.
