Parkeon chosen by Tieto to supply ticketing system in Helsinki

Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL) has selected Tieto Finland OY as the supplier of its new ticket and information system. The contract covers the delivery of the ticket and information system as well as the support and maintenance service for a period of five years. Parkeon have been chosen by Tieto to supply the ticketing system as part of this prestigious project.
The total contract value including the delivery and five years of support and maintenance is approximately EUR 90 million, of which approximately EUR 60 million are investment costs for the system and approximately EUR 30 million are maintenance costs.

The modernization of the system is visible to HSL customers in terms of better service and information. Passengers can monitor the path of a vehicle in real time on a bus stop display, a computer or a mobile phone. Besides passenger communications, the system improves ticketing, traffic control, public transport planning, financial planning and quality control. It also improves the efficiency of bus traffic, as bus priority can be implemented in traffic lights more extensively.

"We will get an advanced new generation system that helps us serve our customers better. We selected Tieto because their tender was the most competitive in terms of quality and price. We have a long history of co-operation with Tieto and we know the company as a reliable partner that can implement the new generation system innovatively and reliably," says Suvi Rihtniemi, Executive Director, HSL.

"We are delighted to be working with Tieto to deliver this world-class system for Helsinki" comments Owen Griffith, Managing Director of Parkeon Transit Ltd.

The overall solution is based on open service architecture, which enables development of the ticket and information system providing new functionalities and services. The system is built on utilizing the location data of the vehicles. Satellite navigation is used to provide more information for example in exceptional situations.
