Parkeon Stradas replace parking meters in Ottawa

Ottawa, like most cities in Canada, was full of single space parking meters. The City decided to move away from these parking meters, replacing them with a much simpler, easy to handle,  system.  4,000 existing parking meters from downtown streets have been removed and replaced with 600 brand new Parkeon parking terminals.

These new machines are solar-powered and so better for the environment as approximately 40,000 batteries are currently used each year for the existing meters.

The terminals accept different payment means,
credit cards, private cards and cash. No need for exact cash anymore and much less cash will be handle by the City who expects to see an increase in its revenue by 25%. The calculation is based on gaining additional parking space (no more fixed marking) and a gain on service cost (less cash handling).
Parkeons local distributor in Canada, Precise ParkLink, won this important RFP issued by Ottowa. This is the first time a city has outsourced its complete parking operation to a private company.
Precise made a  tremendous effort to install all these machines in a very short period of time. For example, the first 150 machines were installed in two days!

By the end of the year, 1,000 Strada terminals will be installed on  the streets of Ottawa, all connected to the Parkeon Datacenter, and all using the on-line credit card system hosted by the same Datacenter.
Parkeon is a long-term partner of Precise ParkLink and the Ottawa opportunity demonstrates the strength of the relationship.

Some amazing successes have occurred in these last few years: Winnipeg with 750 Pay stations installed and the city of Toronto with 3,000 pay stations.
