Jakarta Lost 70 Percent of On Street Parking Revenue

Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki T Purnama revealed that Jakarta Provincial Government lost about 70 percent of its income from on street parking. Therefore, to prevent such a thing from happening again, he is putting in effort to implement integrated parking meter system to make sure the revenue from on street parking stays intact.

"Parking meter system should be implemented in Jakarta in order to make sure the revenue stays intact. This is because according to the study we conducted, we lost about 70 percent of it. So, this is very important," said Basuki, Friday (6/28).

According to Basuki, he will not utilize profit sharing in parking meter system and he is also unwilling to spend a dime in its implementation. "We will conduct the trial run of the system in Kelapagading," he told

For information, parking meter system has been implemented in many developing and advanced countries. The cities in the world that have implemented this system are Boston, Oklahoma, Houston, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and China.

Parking meter system is an array of devices used as medium of payment for road users who conducted on street parking. Parking meter system could also be integrated with road regulation in terms of traffic and the policy on mobility management.
