Smart Parking launches next generation SmartPark solution

Smart Parking, which is one of the world’s leading providers of car parking technology and parking management services, has introduced the next generation of its SmartPark solution to help drivers find a parking space in a town or city centre quickly and conveniently.

Additionally, the company has worked with partners to be able to offer local authorities a funding structure that will enable access to SmartPark without the upfront expenditure costs normally associated with this sort of capital investment.

SmartPark is an integrated package of leading edge technology that provides drivers with real-time information on unoccupied on-street car parking spaces in a town or city centre.

SmartPark includes Smart Parking’s SmartEye sensors, which use infrared to detect when a vehicle has occupied a parking space.

SmartEye sensors now feature a virtually flat, anti-slip profile.  New for 2013/2014, the sensors are also now RFID-equipped, enabling RFID tag identification to allow fuss-free permit parking resident and Blue Badge parking, e-wallet interface encryption and cashless payment, and real-time flexibility, which provides the option of dynamic pricing, space rules and times.  Unlike other sensors that rely on magnetic field triggers, SmartEyesensors are not susceptible to interference from power cable energy surges, maximising reliability and accuracy.

SmartPark zone controllers receive and transmit status updates via 3G to a central server.  Real-time data is then used to populate appropriate devices with changes to parking space occupancy. Drivers access the SmartPark mobile application via their iPhone or Android device to view a current picture of parking spaces near to them.  They are then guided to the nearest unoccupied bay.  Once parked, the application can also be configured to direct them to pay for parking via an authority’s chosen remote payment solution.

Commenting on the next generation of SmartPark,

Smart Parking’s Chief Operating Officer Charlie Leaper

said that the company was building on a proven track record.  “

Unlike some alternative technologies, SmartPark has been deployed for a number of years, which means we are working within the context of tried and trusted hardware.  What’s more, SmartPark is a solution that is already in the ground in the UK, so we can show local authorities the real benefits right now.  Practically, too, the hardware has been well-thought through, which means that it is quick and convenient to install, and can be accessed for maintenance without having to excavate the road surface.”Smart Parking

Leaper also said that Smart Parking’s arrangements across its re-seller partnership community meant that local authorities could now access SmartPark without needing to fund the technology upfront.

The agreements that we now have in place with re-seller partners means that councils can now acquire SmartPark without any of the upfront expenditure costs typically associated with such a capital investment.  Flexible leasing agreements can be structured to ensure that a community benefits from this technology straight away.
