WSP is awarded first prize in European parking design competition
Stockmann Q-Park in downtown Helsinki has won the prestigious European Parking Award in the category of new car parks. The winning car park was designed by WSP Finland in cooperation with the City of Helsinki, Q-Park and Stockmann.
The car park's design was praised for its commitment to improved parking efficiency and sustainable development. For instance, heated ramps prevent ice buildup in the winter and interior surfaces are made from fireproof materials. To minimize power consumption, the car park's lighting is activated by motion detectors. The location of the entrance ramps will also reduce traffic in downtown Helsinki. The estimated annual reduction is 350,000 cars and 100,000 transport vehicles.
"This award is proof of Stockmann Q-Park's user-friendly and safe car park design. It also showcases WSP Finland's ability to develop parking solutions in line with demanding environmental and traffic control requirements," says Risto Jounila, Business Area Director, Transport, WSP Finland.
