Zipcar IPO Lauded by Partner Who Brought Concept South

Lanier Parking Solutions today congratulated its partner, Zipcar, Inc., on its successful initial public offering. Lanier brought car sharing to Atlanta in 2006 by partnering with Flexcar, which Zipcar acquired in 2007.
"Atlanta has embraced the car sharing concept," said Lanier Chairman and CEO Michael Robison, who serves on Zipcar, Inc.'s board. "We knew the concept would be popular, but car sharing companies declined to enter the Atlanta market until Lanier stepped in."

Lanier provided access to its more than 100,000 Atlanta parking spaces for the placement of cars in high-profile locations. It also promoted Zipcar locally and offered discounted Zipcar membership through www.lanierparking.com.

"That partnership helped car sharing get over the initial challenge of entering a very car-centric market," Robison said. "The ongoing success of Zipcar is proof that our optimism about car sharing in Atlanta was well-founded."

Lanier also congratulated its VP of Alternative Transportation, Glenn Kurtz, for his leadership in helping to establish the Zipcar brand in Atlanta.

Zipcar enables members to reserve cars online at www.zipcar.com and rent them by the hour or day. Zipcar provides the freedom of "wheels when you want them" to more than 560,000 members, known as "Zipsters." The company operates a fleet of more than 8,000 vehicles in over 60 cities in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
