Tulum Airport Opening in December With DESIGNA Parking Solutions

More than 200 airports worldwide have chosen the leading technology of DESIGNA for their airport parking solution.

Three years ago, the Mexican Government announced that Tulum, the paradise city of the Mexican Caribbean, would have its own airport. This December, the airport will celebrate its official opening.

With an investment of 3.2 billion pesos, it is estimated that it will have the capacity to serve 5.5 million passengers and handle up to 32,000 annual operations. After Cancún, it will become the second busiest airport in the region in terms of passenger traffic and arrivals. Here are some key features of the new Tulum airport:

The Tulum airport, due to its infrastructure and operational potential, is expected to be classified as a Category 4 ECO airport. It will feature a 3,700-meter-long runway and a Category 1 instrument landing system with advanced navigation technology. A Category I (CAT I) Instrument Landing System (ILS) is a precision approach and landing aid used at airports to assist aircrafts in landing during adverse weather conditions such as low visibility due to fog, rain, or snow.

However, in addition to security and technological aspects, the customer experience at an airport is also of great importance. Typically, the customer journey through an airport begins and ends with the parking experience. Airport parking management is among the most complex of parking scenarios and requires future-proof solutions that are secure, flexible, scalable and cutting-edge. More than 200 airports worldwide have chosen the leading technology of DESIGNA for their airport parking solution.

DESIGNA will be an integral part of the technology in the parking facilities of Tulum Airport, ensuring a seamless blend of technology, automation, and efficiency that aligns with the advanced nature of Tulum Airport.
Specifically, we will install two automatic PAY Stations, totaling eight lanes with license plate recognition cameras for Ticketless procedures.

Installations are scheduled for mid-November, right in time before the official opening of Tulum Airport.

It is an honor for DESIGNA to be a part of such a significant project and to add another airport to our repertoire. We look forward to open the gates in December!
