RECORD NUMBER OF VISITORS TO INTERTRAFFIC AMSTERDAM 2004

Intertraffic Amsterdam 2004 was a great success, attracting a record number of 24,109 visitors from no less than 109 different countries. The international character of this leading exhibition for the design, management and maintenance of traffic and transport infrastructure was also reinforced by the fact that the exhibitors originated from 39 different lands.
Meanwhile, this year’s Intertraffic Innovation Award was won by the British company Prismo for its product Colourbright. This advanced reflection system treats the road surface in such a way that it becomes fluorescent at night from the lights of cars. The next planned Intertraffic exhibition will take place in Mexico City between 27 and 29 October 2004.

Satisfied exhibitors

Intertraffic Amsterdam 2004 broke another record with the number of exhibitors; 677
participants presented their latest products and services to the public. Many of these exhibitors expressed genuine satisfaction with the results of the exhibition.

Daniela Schroër from the German company Designa commented that Intertraffic 2004 was an excellent edition. “Over the past few days we have made new contacts with respect to a number of very promising projects. Moreover, we were highly impressed with the professional organisation of the event.”

Communication manager Michel Vesseur from the Dutch firm Vialis reported that its innovations were a great hit at the exhibition. “We introduced our new traffic lights and ticket machines at Intertraffic Amsterdam. This exhibition offers the ideal platform for bringing major industry news to the attention of a broad international public.”

M-Tech’s Rainer Müller stated that his company did some serious business at Intertraffic. “I have the idea that the fair attracted many new visitors from Eastern European and Asian countries. These upcoming markets are very interesting for our globally operating organisation.”

Richard Neumann from the Austrian company Swarco was also very happy with both the quantity as well the quality of the visitors. “We will most definitely be present as exhibitors at the next edition,” he said, “and probably with an even larger stand.”

Innovation Award

The Intertraffic Innovation Award is granted to the company displaying the most innovative product at the fair. The ten companies selected as nominations by the jury back in January were Erich Utsch AG from Germany, DTV Consultants, Silca Traffic Systems, Parkmate Products and Vialis Verkeer & Mobiliteit from the Netherlands, H.C.I.S. from France, Arsenal Research and SKIDATA AG from Austria, Prismo Ltd. from the United Kingdom, and SERNIS from Portugal.

During its final assessment on the day before the Intertraffic exhibition got underway, the jury decided that the British company Prismo was the overall winner. This decision was announced during the opening of Intertraffic Amsterdam on Tuesday 30 March.

The jury assessed Prismo’s product Colourbright as follows: “The innovative material applied to the road surface is illuminated in the dark by car headlights. This offers significant benefits in terms of visibility, and will make an important contribution to traffic safety, especially on unlit roads.”

First Intertraffic North America in September 2005

On the opening day of the Intertraffic Amsterdam 2004 exhibition, the general director of the Amsterdam RAI, Hans Bakker, and the director of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, T. Peter Ruane, signed a contract to organise the first Intertraffic in North America. This biennial exhibition will start in September 2005 in a city on the east coast of the continent.

By organising an Intertraffic exhibition in North America, the Amsterdam RAI adds an important new location to its portfolio. In addition to the ‘mother exhibition' in Amsterdam, there are also fairs in Mexico, Turkey and Thailand.
