Is "Back-in Style" the New Black?

Reverse parking...

Citing safety as its premise, cities and companies around the world are implementing new regulations for parking: that it’s to be carried out “back-in” style – a.k.a. reverse parking.

It’s said that back-in parking is safer due to the fact that when the driver vacates the parking space, he/she has a clearer view of oncoming traffic and pedestrians, therefore avoiding more accidents. Companies urging their employees to reverse park do so for these reasons also, however, in addition, in the event of an emergency, reverse parked cars can be more swiftly manouvered away from the workplace, lowering accident rates and therefore insurance claims.

Not everyone is in agreement though. Back-in parking from alongside a busy road with impatient drivers behind you who have to back-up their own cars to allow you room to reverse may not be the scene of calm and serenity that councils are anticipating. And at work, do we need our hands held to such a degree to avoid workplace accidents?
