Area Operations Manager (UK)

The Role

As an Area Operations Manager, you will work on the Network Rail contract, leading and driving the area team to ensure all internal and external KPIs are met. You will liaise on a regular basis and supporting the Contract Manager in delivering the company and client objectives. The ideal candidate must be operationally strong, very organised, reactive, and flexible.

What you’ll do

  • Provide dynamic and motivational leadership to their team and to ensure all team members are delivering consistently excellent levels of service to customers
  • Drive the ultimate success of the operation through effective management, promoting best practice and forming a close working partnership with internal and external stakeholders
  • Working with the Contract Manager, manage and control the budget assigned to the Network Rail and associated contracts
  • Monitor and control expenditure in accordance with the budget, procedures, levels of delegated authority and financial control/audit requirements, taking appropriate action when variances occur
  • Provide accurate information as required for the annual budget, within required timescales, identifying capital required for maintenance and development as appropriate
  • Ensure specified response times are met, in accordance of contractual and local agreements
  • Provide effective and proactive management to support the Contract Manager, the wider management team, all supervisors and front line colleagues.
  • Monitor team performance and implement measures for improvement
  • Assist the network Rail Office Manager to determine the accuracy of customer/client complaints
  • Manage and motivate an operational team across a diverse multi service 24/7 operation
  • Conduct monthly/quarterly reviews and annual appraisals to identify and constantly improve colleagues awareness and understanding through development
  • Provide management information/reports as and when necessary for the Contract Manager.
  • Ensure that all new business leads are qualified and followed through as far as possible in liaison with the Contract Manager
  • Work with the contract team to implement successful marketing and promotional initiatives to increase sales and maximise income opportunities

What you’ll bring

  • Good contract development skills/experience.
  • Proven leadership and general management experience in a commercial customer facing environment.
  • Ability to present to Management and Clients.
  • Ability to deliver challenging and demanding targets
  • Ability to manage teams across a large geographic area
  • Experience in operational and/or commercial management
  • Experience in the preparation & delivery of operational and managerial Reports
  • Ability to manage and motivate staff to deliver an excellent level of service Qualifications
  • Inter-personal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Competent oral and written communicator
  • Self-motivated, pro-active and flexible
  • Educated to Degree level or relevant knowledge and experience
  • IOSH certificate Ideal Background
  • A full, clean UK driving licence
  • Knowledge of parking industry and processes is preferred by not required
