We are currently in a phase of rapid, global expansion and are looking for an experienced and highly engaged Linux System Administrator to join our global R&D and network management team, based in Neukirch/Bodenseekreis (near Lake Constance), Germany. You will be part of an innovative, dynamic and international team with offices in Germany, US, and UK. As Linux System Administrator, you will be responsible for a rapidly-growing and globally distributed network of edge-computing devices and cloud server infrastructure. You will ensure system scalability and reliability, constantly improving our systems architecture and deployment methodologies in support of the company’s rapid growth. Your experience allows you to act mostly autonomously and as a senior contributing member of our technology team. You will focus on quality, reliability, scalability, and sustainability. Your excellent communication skills will contribute to our highly-collaborative, multi-national team dynamic.
Role & Responsibilities
Edge computing and cloud server administration
Automation of building and deploying of embedded software and binary device images
Database administration: maintain and scale our MongoDB setup
System security, firewall (Sophos), and VPN administration
Maintaining all network deployment (e.g. DNS, Nginix, Apache, PHP, https, et al)
Configuration/version management (e.g. Git, Icinga, Grafana, et al)
Hardware maintenance, and filesystem housekeeping
Application installation and configuration
Effective systems monitoring, creating, improving and maintaining early warning signals and keeping an eye on what really matters (Grafana, Icinga, et al.)
Backup and storage management, as well as disaster recovery planning & testing
What you need to succeed
University degree in computer science is great but not required -- practical knowledge and demonstrated expertise is crucial
Scripting experience (Bash, Python, other languages beneficial)
Well-versed with Linux/Embedded Linux (CentOS, red hat, Ubuntu). Experience with Windows not required, but beneficial.
Good English or German language skills
