Vice President of Government Relations (Charlotte, US)

About the Role

Passport’s Government Relations function is responsible for building relationships with municipal leaders for the purpose of educating them on the value of Passport’s digital platform to improve their mobility operations.

As the Vice President, Government Relations you will serve as the coordinator of Passport’s public policy, manage local government affairs in target accounts and drive thought leadership in the transportation vertical. The role sits at the apex of Passport’s sales, marketing and product teams. You will need to be able to translate cross-functional business goals into actionable projects that promote business growth and advance policy objectives in support of Passport’s mission to create more liveable, equitable communities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Government Relations Strategy
  • Develop long term (2-5 year) GR strategy in partnership with senior leadership and external strategy partners
  • Lead successful execution against near term goals (year 1)
  • Thought Leadership
  • Serve as a critical thought leader for Passport on developments in the transportation industry
  • Create a library of original thought leadership content (blogs / white papers) that can be leveraged to communicate Passport’s brand value proposition to internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in regular briefings with industry influencers to keep them apprised of Passport strategy / Voice of Passport at association events and at key influencer meetings
  • Policy Development
  • Work closely with the product team to further policy initiatives that will accelerate go-to-market strategies for new products (ie) micromobility
  • Actively identify policy development opportunities to promote Passport’s products
  • Serve as the expert in grant funding: Identify areas where Passport can partner with municipalities to access grants and lead effort on grant proposals
  • Account Development
  • Oversee GR partnership network assigned to target cities. Includes:
  • Contract renewal / extensions / suspensions
  • ROI of partners against account ARR conversion
  • Make recommendations on additional partners needed to either create and/or deepen relationships in existing accounts
  • Participate in client pitches and support RFP / Shortlist content development
  • Help incorporate important policy objectives in client presentations
  • Team Management
  • Management and strategic direction to current GR team member(s)
  • Develop team structure as needed in support of long term strategy

About You

You are passionate about government relations and the discipline of building followership through influence for the brands you serve. You are creative in your approach to the development of policy ideas and have built a network of policy leaders that you can draw on for feedback. You have a strong vision for what’s possible and are not afraid to take risks and ask the tough questions if the data in front of you doesn't make sense. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment and know how to establish metrics and hold you and your team accountable for achieving goals.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Government, Political Science, Urban Planning or related field required
  • MPA in Domestic Policy, Urban Policy / Planning or JD preferred
  • 15 plus years of progressive experience in public policy, administration, urban planning or in a senior leadership role within a government agency
  • Strong, pre-existing relationships in municipal government and credibility with government entities and third parties in the United States
  • Advanced leadership experience managing a team as well as others outside direct reporting structure
  • Accomplished writer and excellent communications and oral presentation skills
  • Track record writing policy memos and grant proposals preferred
  • Experience in the transportation industry preferred
