Parking Summit seeks clarity on UK Government proposals for parking management

The recent Government consultation on current local authority parking appears to not fully appreciate the facts about the way parking is managed, seemingly flying in the face of the Government’s declared localism agenda.

The BPA and its members have some fundamental concerns in regard to this consultation, the Government’s proposals and the scope of legislative powers to achieve them. In addition, The BPA has serious concerns about the impact the uncertainty that this consultation gives to the future of civil parking enforcement in particular and parking management in general.

The BPA’s Parking Summit will engage all stakeholders including government, road users and local authorities to bring some sense to policy direction so that we can all better understand how best to meet the needs of businesses, traders, residents and motorists without resorting to rhetoric.

Transport Minister Robert Goodwill and Richard Burden, a member of the Shadow Transport Team, will both attend the Summit to set out their vision for the parking sector. Senior representatives from organisations with a stake in parking have also been invited to attend and contribute their views to ensure that the best outcome is achieved for all interested parties.

After an opening address from the BPA President Helen Crozier, both MPs will set out their views and then take questions from the floor. The day will then be divided into 3 sessions, each focusing on current issues within each sector and including a 5 minute presentation from invited speakers, followed by a round table discussion operating under Chatham House rules.
