Stewarton is ready to park and ride
A new 750,000 Park and Ride facility part-funded by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport opened in Stewarton today.
The car park at Standalane has 68 spaces and was developed in partnership with East Ayrshire Council and Network Rail.

A new two-way access road from Standalane, together with a pedestrian walkway access ramp and stairs from the car park to both platforms at Stewarton Railway Station, has been included in the development.
Improvements were also made to the junction layout of Standalane with Kilwinning Road, which included the installation of new street lights.
The Park and Ride also incorporates spaces for disabled drivers plus parent and child parking, footway access from both Standalane and Ravenscraig Road, a new street lighting system, and full CCTV coverage.
Viewing the new site ahead of its official opening, SPT member for East Ayrshire Councillor Bobby McDill, said: I am delighted to see that this much needed Park and Ride facility is now open.
Im sure it will be welcomed by the many people who use the rail link, particularly between Glasgow and Kilmarnock. It will also help to reduce parking congestion in the area around the station for local residents.
This has been a combined effort but goes to show how partnership working can deliver strategic transport solutions. Park and Ride schemes have been hugely successful across the region and Im sure that this new facility will help build the transport network for this area for years to come.
